Can you coordinate the Staff Appreciation Lunch?
The role involves:
It's a fun job, there are lots of people who will help/advise and share their expertise from the past. Please email volunteer@lordtennyson.ca if you're interested. Here are some pictures from last year's lunch to get you inspired. We are excited to announce the first annual Big Spring Break Book Swap, which will happen March 10-12 in the Lord Tennyson foyer.
The idea with this event is to remind the children of the importance of recycling and that their junk is somebody else's treasure. The book swap is a great opportunity for them to score some awesome reads just in time for the spring break. What a great learning opportunity for our small (ish) loved ones as it saves money, the environment and it enriches their minds. We ask you, parents, to have your children go through their dust covered bookshelves and pick out books that are no longer loved and bring them to school to donate to the swap. Both English and French books are welcome and the more books you can donate the better. The will be a box in every classroom to make it easy to drop off. During the fair, we kindly ask the children to grab one book a day to ensure that everyone who wants gets a book. This will be great. The details: When: Tuesday March 10 - Thursday March 12 Lunch time (12-1pm) and after school (3-4pm) Where: The Tennyson Foyer What we need from you 1. Please donate the books you want to share in the box in your classroom. 2. If you have time please help us organize the books (Friday March 6). Set-up the tables (Monday March 9) and help students find some great books at the swap (Tuesday-Thursday, lunchtime and after school). Please sign up here if you’re able to help. Parents are welcome to browse books with their children and support the Big Spring Break Book Swap. Thank you for your support Sara Sundstrom and Jaqueline Crummey This Monday's presentation on Friendship, Conflict & Building Resilience was packed full of information to help us guide our children to have happy, healthy and strong relationships. Nicola Doughty delivered an interactive presentation outlining the development stages of children's emotional and social behaviours, and ideas to support parents helping their children learn to make friends, uphold their own values and negotiate conflicts and peer relationships with confidence. Here are the slides from the presentation. Thank you Karen Davies, for organizing another excellent event.

Remember to also register for our Spring Break Camps. As the new school is nearing completion our minds are turning to giving the old building a proper send off. We would like to host a community farewell event in June which is open to everyone, including current students, families and staff, alumni, neighbours, former staff, and the community.
We're looking for a group of 5 or 6 interested parents to plan and organize the event - a committee would help share the load and draw on expertise and experience. Email volunteer@lordtennyson.ca if you would like to volunteer. The plan for the event isn't final but some ideas are to have:
A lot of archiving work has already been done which is super helpful. Here is a link to photos of Tennyson that have been posted on the VSB Archive and Heritage page and memorabilia has already been amassed so they just need to be prepared for display. To learn more about Tennyson's history you can visit the PAC history and archive page. |
