Scholastic English Book Fair
The Tennyson English Scholastic Book Fair starts Monday April 9 at 3:00. Monday April 9 - Friday April 13 Open before school 8:45-9:00 every day except Monday, at recess 10:35-10:55 and after school 3:00-3:30. This is NOT a fundraiser. If we sell $3000 worth of books, we receive 60% back in Scholastic credits! These credits are divided between the teachers, library and resource teachers. The credits are exchanged for books to enrich your child’s class. Picture books, dictionaries, non-fiction - we have it all. Most of the books will be in English. Here’s a link to some reviews of the books that will be available. http://www.scholastic.ca/festival/eng/featuredbooks.php We will do the Wish Lists again. Your teacher will have a list of books that they wish to have in their class. You can purchase a book for your child’s teacher and at the same time your purchase goes towards our Scholastic credits. Don't forget to enter your name into the Family Draw. The winner gets $25 and the teacher gets $25 too! Hope to see you there! Kilometre club is back at Tennyson this spring, and will start on Thursday April 5th if it is not raining, otherwise the following week. Kilometre club is free, open to all grades, and run by both parent and teacher volunteers. This year our aim is to offer it four or even five days a week (TBD), with morning runs Tuesday and Thursday (8:20 to 8:45), and lunch runs (12:30 to 12:45) on Monday and Friday (and possibly Wednesday), weather permitting. A very light drizzle is ok but real rain will mean no practice. Children will need appropriate footwear (running shoes). Every child who wants to participate needs to hand in a permission form within the first week (available soon). For morning runs, kids in grades kindergarten to grade 2 should have a designated adult present who can supervise their transition to class. Kids' kilometres will be counted as a collective effort and we will track their progress across the province/s. Like all Tennyson extracurriculars, this program cannot run without volunteers. The time commitment can be twenty or thirty minutes once a week, to supervise the kids, morning or lunch. Or if you can offer some organizational help, that would also be much appreciated. The club will run until approximately mid-June, with many kids hopefully choosing to join the Tennyson Child Run team (June 3) as a goal. Please contact carinablafield@gmail.com to volunteer.
