Tennyson Strings students from grades 4 - 7 performed at the Chan Centre with six other elementary schools and two high schools tonight. What an experience for them to perform at such an incredible venue. The sounds were delightful and it was obvious how hard the students have worked this year. Bravo - we are very proud of you! Thank you to our fantastic Strings teacher, Ruth Anderson. The sun shone brightly on our Track and Field team on Tuesday. Our 28 junior Tigers (grades 3 to 5) did a fantastic job representing Tennyson at relays, shot put, high jump and long jump. The senior team will go out and show their stuff on Thursday. Thank you to all the wonderful performers who wowed the crowd tonight at Tennyson's Spring Fling. The talent was incredible with everything from guitar, piano, violin, cello, and flute playing to beautiful singing, great dancing, karate, gymnastics, and acrobatics. It was wonderful to see so many talented and courageous students perform. Events like this rely on parent volunteers and there were no shortage of them tonight ... thank you all! A HUGE thanks goes out to Lori Satov who stepped up to oversee the whole event. It would not have happened otherwise. Thanks to dj Jackson (sound), Borja & Chard (stage), Rob & Cedric (sound), Steve (mc), Christine (bake sale), Tracy (food), Susan (raffle baskets), Judy (decorations), Toni (student sign ups), Kyle (kid control), and everyone who took a shift selling tickets and serving food, donating baking, setting up, and cleaning up. Sorry we can't name you all but THANK YOU! And thank you to Mme Lavoie ... this event could not happen without the support of administration at our school (notice she was there until the very end!). The raffle baskets were a huge highlight (especially for me!!) and karma came into play with the organizers winning a few of the big baskets (we are calling it karma, not "fixed"). $1800 was raised from the raffle ... thank you to everyone who contributed to their divisions basket and to everyone who bought tickets. And next time you are thinking Mexican Fiesta for a party ... the food was provided by Tennyson's own Tracy Rowand who is the owner of Taste to Savour. It was delicious! Thank you to the following businesses who supported our Spring Fling this year: Kitsilano Liquor Store - 2289 West Broadway (say "hi" and thanks to Dave) Village VQA Wines - 1811 West 1st Ave (say "hi" and thanks to Mary) Pete's Meat - 12th and Arbutus (say "hi"and thanks to Pete) Burrard Liquor Store - 2401 Burrard St (say "hi" and thanks to Chantell) Randal Kurt Photography - our very own, award-winning Tennyson parents Randal & Meralon Taste to Savour - our very own, delicious caterer and Tennyson parent, Tracy Rowand And some highlight photos (the photographer was only there for the last half but feel free to send along a photo for posting). blog@lordtennyson.ca And a highlight video of Luke and Ollie performing SkyFall. Our grade 7 students hosted their Quebec twins in Vancouver this week. What a week it has been! The students arrived Monday evening and had a welcome dinner at the school. The week's activities included: paddle-boarding, hiking in Lynn Canyon, biking the Stanley Park seawall, visiting the aquarium, seeing Fly Over Canada, touring Chinatown and Gastown, dragon-boating, visiting Granville Island, a bbq in the pouring rain (very Vancouver!), Britiannia Mines, Shannon Falls, and Whistler. If you see some exhausted kids wandering around, you know why! The Quebec students will spend the weekend with their new families and will return home on Monday morning. Here is a sampling of the fun times: Encore Musical Theatre Company is a company for Vancouver kids in grades 4 through 9 who LOVE musical theatre. This year's show (Singin' in the Rain) is coming soon and tickets always sell out. If you are wondering about musical theatre options for your son or daughter, come check out the show! Singin' in the Rain has one Tennyson student in it - Jay Botham. Maybe next year there will be more Tennyson talent in the show ...
Tickets can be purchased online www.encoremusicaltheatre.org All seats are $15 and Norman Rothstein Theatre is a wonderful venue for a show. Our Grade 7 students welcomed their Quebec "twins" today. Our students stayed with their twin in February and now it is our turn to host. Please say "hello" when you see the Quebec students around the school this week. The students arrived to open arms at 5pm and then a delightful dinner was enjoyed by families at the school. The students have an amazing week of activities planned ... hiking, biking, paddle-boarding, dragon boating, the Aquarium, Whistler, beach bbq, Granville Island, and more! We really intend to show these Quebec students the best that Vancouver has to offer. |
