On May 20th Vancouver Pranic Healing will be hosting a bowling fundraiser where all proceeds will go to the Surrey Food Bank. Iris from Pranic Healing is the Tennyson mom who offers the free Tuesday meditation classes for adults at Tennyson.
Here are the details. It is almost time to show the Tennyson staff how much we appreciate them!
Every year, PAC organizes a Staff Appreciation Lunch at the school for all of the Tennyson Staff. This year, the lunch will be on Thursday, June 1. We kindly ask for contributions of food, drink and flowers. Please sign up online here. If you can help set up or clean up on Thursday, June 1, please email Barbara and let her know. Here are some photos of the amazing lunch from last year. Tennyson Parents are invited to a meeting at Trafalgar Elementary School about the impact of the VSB changes for French Immersion Intake. The meeting is tomorrow, Tuesday May 16, at 7.30 pm on the Trafalgar School Library.
See the message below for details. ----- Hi there: I'm just reaching out to you as Tennyson parents, and I apologize for the short notice. I believe that your school is impacted by VSB changes for French immersion intake. My school (Trafalgar) is having a meeting regarding this, both to share information among parents (because details are tricky to communicate) and to determine a strategy going forward. (Note: I really don't know what the answer is, so I'm hoping for ideas.) We will have a representative from the district PAC as well as Canadian Parents for French available, to provide a broader viewpoint of what is going on and how we might advocate. Meeting is 7:30PM Tuesday night, in our school library. It is that magical time of year again! Encore Musical Theatre Company proudly presents this year's show ...
The Wizard of Oz! Encore Musical Theatre Company is a company for Vancouver kids in grades 4 through 9 who LOVE musical theatre. There are 3 Tennyson students in the show this year (and one former Tennyson student). Come see Amelia, Ellie, Rhiley (all from Gr 5) and Jay (Gr 8)! This classic tale, in which a Kansas farm girl travels over the rainbow to discover the magical power of home, has been entertaining audiences for generations. Join Dorothy, Toto, Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, Glinda the Good Witch, Auntie Em, Uncle Henry and our favourite Munchkins and Ozians as they journey to escape the Wicked Witch of the West, her Flying Monkeys and Winkie Guards, get past the Doorman of Oz, and meet the Wizard to have their greatest wishes granted. The show is being performed at the Norman Rothstein Theatre (JCC at 41st and Oak). The shows sell out every year so get your tickets in advance! Auditions for next year's show will be in early September and are open to Gr 4s and older. Thursday, June 8 7:00 pm General Admission $20.00 Friday, June 9 7:00 pm General Admission $20.00 Saturday, June 10 2:00 pm General Admission $20.00 Saturday, June 10 7:00 pm General Admission $20.00 Tickets can be purchased at www.encoremusicaltheatre.org Thank you for supporting Tennyson students! Hi Track & Field parents of Gr 3 and up,
In case you have not received an email concerning the upcoming meets, please check your Junk Folder. You still can’t find it? Email [email protected]. Additional Team Update: Participation - On the day of the meets, invite your Tennyson Tiger to wear their Orange team shirt to support their teammates. And even if it is not your childs' meet, they are always welcome as supporters! We are all one big team, and this is a fun way for the younger kids to start to see what the bigger meets are all about! Practice support - A huge thanks to Mme Megan Samenirad (Div. 19, Maternelle/Kindergarten) for coming out and being one of our sponsor teachers last week. We so appreciate her help and support, and we couldn't have had such successful practices without her! Additionally, a big thank-you to parent coaches Ed Sernoski and Ryan McCuaig for leading the rainy-day practice on Wednesday when the field was simply sludge and unusable (and the gym not available due to being booked for early voting). The combination of stairs, shot-put dodgeball, toilet and octopus tag, and the grand finale of the circle-jumping exercise (for lack of an exact name) made it a great practice. Not a typical Track and Field practice, but a lot of fun and definitely applicable exercise! Regarding Track & Field team Uniforms -- we use the bright Orange Tennyson Athletic t-shirts as our Track & Field uniform. They are $20 per shirt, or $30 for the entire set of shirt/long socks/long-sleeve black shirt for underneath/bright orange toque. There are bursaries available for families who are not able to incur the cost of the uniforms at this time. Please email Mme Alain confidentially in this regard. (Unfortunately, we may not have enough old previously used t-shirts available for those who forget theirs on the day of the meet. Please help your athlete bring theirs to avoid disappointment at the meet. If your athlete has already borrowed a shirt from us and not returned it, they will not be able to borrow another until they return the first.) Special Finals notes: -Please indicate if you can send/attend with snacks for District Meet May 24th. The Juniors were very hungry last year! :-) -Please indicate if your family (# members) plans to attend the Team Party at Boston Pizza 3:30-6pm(approx.) following the District meet on May 24th so that we can make appropriate reservations. - We hope to celebrate with the K-2 group in a special Annual Mini X-Meet Friday May 26th from approx. 7:45-8:45am so please stay tuned....tbc Many Thanks, Radha, Jacqueline & Barbara Hello Tennyson parents,
Here is an article that addresses why our children are bored at school, easily distracted, and easily frustrated ... basically a little parenting advice! Worth a read, for sure. https://yourot.com/parenting-club/2016/5/16/why-our-children-are-so-bored-at-school-cant-wait-and-get-so-easily-frustrated As a supplement, try to make it out to our parent presentation on Parenting in a Digital World ... it all ties together! Monday, May 15 at 7pm (quick PAC meeting first and speaker at 7:30pm). Childcare will be provided. http://www.lordtennyson.ca/news-blog/parenting-in-the-digital-world-workshop-for-parents A new Netflix series aimed at teens 16 and up that deals with bullying, sexual behaviour and suicide in graphic detail is causing concern for teachers and parents worried it romanticizes these heavy topics. Here is a CBC article on it as well as a letter for parents from VSB :
