Fossil fuel companies are shaping what kids learn about climatechange in our schools.

5/21/2025

A  new report from For Our Kids and CAPE exposes how at least 39 oil and gas companies and 12 industry-linked organizations are infiltrating Canadian classrooms, including in Vancouver - funding misleading climate education, influencing curricula, and shaping teacher training. The result? A version of climate education that downplays the central role of fossil fuels in the climate crisis and weakens the urgency for real solutions.

Hundreds of thousands of children across Canada are receiving climate education that obfuscates the role of corporate actors in the climate crisis, downplays the dangers of fossil fuels, and oversells technological fixes—leaving them unprepared for the realities of the climate crisis.

Our children deserve fact-based, science-backed climate education—not industry propaganda. We would not want tobacco companies to shape health classes or McDonald's to write nutrition curricula. Why are we letting fossil fuel companies shape what our kids learn about climate and environmental science?

It’s time to take action.
We need your help to ensure this critical issue reaches policymakers, educators, and parents.

Here’s what you can do:
  • Read the report to learn more about this issue. Find the report summary here or dive deeper into the full report here.
  • Take action as a teacher, parent, or student using the tools provided here.
