The Royal Canadian Sea Cadet program is a youth program delivered by the Department of National Defence, in partnership with the Navy League of Canada. The Sea Cadet Program is open to youth between the ages of 12 and 18. Sea Cadets learn valuable skills that help with their transition to adulthood.
They come out of the program as self-aware, self-sufficient leaders with an invested interest in their communities and the skills to actively contribute to society in meaningful ways. Throughout their training, Sea Cadets learn about teamwork, problem-solving, and effective communication, and participate in activities to improve their communities, all through the lens of a maritime focus. Free of cost, cadets can participate in naval activities and training, while gaining certifications, boating licenses, first aid, and access to multiple summer camps and jobs, nationally and internationally. This is all funded by the Government of Canada. You are invited to attend an online information sessions on Friday June 14th at 6:30 PM, and on Sunday June 16th at 12:00 PM for parents and youth to learn more about the program. Our team comprises experienced childcare educators who ensure a safe and enriching environment.
Each week, we organize a range of activities and outings, including cooking, arts and crafts, explorations, guided tours, science experiments, park visits, beach outings, dance sessions, and more, both indoors and outdoors. Check the Kits House website to learn more and to register On Sunday, June 9, the Tennyson Tiger Team joined 9,700 runners across the province to participate in the BC Children's Hospital RBC Race for the kids, and it was an incredible experience! The morning was filled with excitement and energy, and a strong sense of community as we came together to support a fantastic cause.
The race was not just a competition but a celebration of our collective efforts to make a difference and there was a fantastic carnival so everyone had fun after their hard work. Our achievement We are thrilled to share that our team raised an impressive $5,064.22 beating our $5,000 goal. This achievement is a testament to the generosity and support of our friends, family, and the Tennyson community. Your contributions have made a significant impact, and we are incredibly grateful for every donation. If you haven't had the chance to donate yet, there's still time! It's a super community event for a great cause! Walk, Bike, Roll to School Week was a fantastic experience for everyone involved. Each day brought excitement and joy, with daily prizes that became a big hit among the students. And, we are delighted to report that a kindergartner won the voucher for a week-long Pedalheads bike camp. Thank you Pedalheads for donating the incredibly generous prize.
The sense of community and support was palpable, especially on Thursday and Friday, when food and coffee were generously donated by local businesses. A big thank you to Pallet Coffee, Cobs Bread, and McDonald’s for their contributions, which made these days even more special. Thank you too to the City of Vancouver for the Walk, Bike, Roll to school week mini grant. Thank you to Chantelle who planned and organized the week long event and to everyone who volunteered at the sign in tables and to serve the food. This event not only promoted healthy habits and environmental awareness but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and school spirit. We look forward to many more Walk, Bike, Roll to School Weeks in the future! My family and I are relocating from Toronto to Vancouver and our two boys will be starting at Lord Tennyson this September. They will be entering grade 2 and 5. If you have kids in those grades I'd love to connect with you to ask some questions and to meet up with some of the other kids in the summer before school starts so there may be a familiar face or two on their first day at a new school.
