Howl fun and photos

10/31/2024

The Halloween Howl team did an amazing job again of transforming the Tennyson
halls into a fun and spooky Halloween haunt with tons of entertainment for all. It was lit!

It's hard to pick one best thing. DJ Jordan was playing the music so loud in the gym that us oldies had to ask him to turn it down. The haunted house was even gorier this year, and the jump scares were thrilling! There were creepy stories, arts and crafts, and batty bingo, and the haunted hockey, games in the gym, and jello eating contest added to the fun. We were spoiled for choice with the delicious treats at the bake sale. Thank you for everyone who brought the amazing treats.

A highlight for many was having their destiny predicted by the magnificent fortune tellers. Others loved Bettlejuice who kept the crowd entertained with his antics in the creepy graveyard. Another fun thing was the old-fashioned photo booth, where guests got photo strips as souvenirs.

There were a number of prizes awarded on the night. Congratulations to Camilo (Grade 2) who won the best kids costume contest. He was the Headless Man, and he won a $25 Kidsbooks gift card. Congratulations to Pola and Janusz, our zombie bride and groom, They were great sports, scaring kids in the haunted house, and won the adult costume prize of a six-pack of Kits Beach Beer and a $25 gift certificate for Puerto Mexico. Eilidh in Grade 4 won the jar of candy with a guess of 138 (she was just 1 away, there were 139 in the jar). The final congratulations goes to the pumpkin carving contest winners. Check out the blog post here for the list of winners and for pictures.

Of course, we need to end with some thank yous to the wonderful people who made the Howl possible. Thank you to Mme Martinson, our teachers and all the school staff, for sharing their spaces so we can throw such a massive party. And, thank you to the Howl Planning Team and all the volunteers who helped with set-up and tear down and especially on the night. You're all awesome and made the night spooktacular.

Community Market- Looking for Vendors

10/10/2024

Looking for crafters, makers, DIYers, and creative folks

In partnership with the Kitsilano Neighbhourhood House, I am organizing a community inclusive makers market on Nov. 16th. The goal of the market is to create an inclusive space for makers to sell their amazing creations. Traditional craft markets are expensive, require a certain business savy, or aren't accessible for many small batch makers. This market makes space for locally made goods to be showcased and for the community to be able to buy relatively affordable handmade goods. There are spots for about 10 vendors. The cost is $20 per table but if you can't afford it we can figure something out. This will help cover the cost of cleaning and staff time. Kids are welcome to sell.

If you are interested please reach out to Charlene Phung at [email protected]
