Hello everyone !
As we step into February, we are grateful for the incredible work happening at Vancouver DPAC. At our January General Meeting, the amazing presentations from our working groups showcased their dedication to improving education for all students. This is a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish when we come together with a shared purpose, and it’s exciting to see the progress we’re making as a collective. This coming month, we’re excited to share our progress in strengthening communication within the district. We are thrilled to unveil the first-ever Vancouver DPAC Communication Plan, which will guide our collective efforts to engage, inform, and empower parents and caregivers moving forward. With Valentine's Day and Family Day just around the corner, our theme for February is Mental Wealth and Digital Safety. These holidays remind us of the importance of connection—whether through love, friendship, or family. We’ll be sharing tips on helping students build healthy online relationships and prioritize their mental well-being in the digital age. A special thank you to Deborah Stern Silver, one of our DPAC Executives from Hamber Secondary School, for her collaboration with The Archewell Foundation. Through this very exciting initiative, the Foundation will provide small group input sessions for Vancouver students and parents/caregivers navigating the digital landscape. The Foundation’s sessions (link here) will be a fantastic opportunity for parents and students to share their experiences and gain insight into creating a healthier digital environment. We also extend our gratitude to the parents at Queen Mary Elementary and Vancouver Technical Secondary for leading social media and mental health initiatives at their schools. We’ll share more at the upcoming February General Meeting. As we reflect on the importance of connection this month, let’s remember the power of coming together as a community. When we support one another, whether online or in person, we help foster an environment where our students can thrive, both mentally and emotionally. In the spirit of community and support, we invite you to take action: This newsletter features several important initiatives. Please share the contents of this newsletter with your PACs and consider adding these items to your meeting agenda. Thank you to the many parents and caregivers who contribute to Vancouver DPAC in a variety of ways—whether by logging into our website, joining working groups, or taking on a representative role. Together, we are building a stronger, more connected community for our children and families.
