Life is busy and the idea of taking on more responsibility is never appealing. However, joining the PAC Executive doesn't have to be a chore.
There is only one meeting a month, and it's not the end of the world if you can't make it sometimes. And, being a member of the executive doesn’t make you responsible for running PAC events or for hitting the fundraising goals. There are lots of other Tennyson parents who are happy to take on running things. As a member of the Executive your priority is to represent the parents when discussing issues with the school administration. As well, you will agree how much money the PAC needs to raise for initiatives and decide how it will be spent. So what are the top three reasons to join the PAC Executive?
The upcoming PAC meeting, on June 17 at 7pm, is the AGM where new members can be voted in. The more parents on the Executive the better so let us know if you’re interested. The “STOP the Summer Slide” French Book Fair hours will be a little different this time.

Many thanks to our Librarian Mme Paule, who has coordinated our student Library volunteers to assist. Mme Paule has also organized individual classes to come enjoy the books during their class hours, as the library is currently closed for year-end inventory. Add more books to Tennyson classrooms, resource rooms and our library! Every book fair sale goes towards getting up to 70% credit back from Scholastic. These credits will be distributed to all divisions, the library, and resource teachers and will be used to add more books and resources for our children. Also, we will be selling Tennyson Athletics t-shirts. Adult sizes are also available! All shirts $20. Cash only for the shirts. If you are a parent who can volunteer some time (any time) please email or text Jacqueline Crummey @ [email protected] or 778.788.2585 As always a lot in the DPAC newsletter and calendar.
Our DPAC Rep, Paula has pulled a few key items out that she thought may be of interest. Thanks Paula!
Have a good Friday! Dear Tennyson parents,
The daughter of one of my very good friends from France is trying to come to Vancouver to be an au Pair in July in order to improve her English. She is a very serious 19 years old and has experience with babysitting. I vouch for her. She made a very nice letter to introduce herself. Please consider having her for a month of time and treat her like family (no wages except for at least pocket money). Thank you very much For more information you can either contact me at [email protected] or her directly as on the email she provided on her letter. Mme Simone Parents were treated to a fabulous Tea Party June 5, to thank them for volunteering during the year. It was a perfect afternoon.
The library was beautifully decorated with elegant table settings and banners covered in thank you messages from students and teachers in each Division. There was an amazing spread of delicious goodies, many of them home made. Parents were greeted at the door with flowers and attentively served by student leaders Claire Mercier, Lucy Howey and Naomi Coldrey. And the entertainment wonderful; Rachel Rallison played the piano beautifully while parents chatted to friends and teachers. Thank you to all Tennyson students, teachers and staff. It was a lovely party. Congratulations to Tennyson alumnus Zachary Severyn (class of 2017) and his teammates from Kitsilano Secondary School who beat out tough competition from across the province to win first place in the Junior Achievement BC Discover your Pitch contest on May 28!
In the Junior Acievment entrepreneurship club, students who are interested in business take an innovative idea and making it happen. If nominated by their teacher then they get to take their entrepreneurship skills and knowledge to the next level by participating in an entrepreneurship workshop and then pitching their business idea to a panel of judges made up of BC’s top business executives. Zachary and his colleagues, created a company named Palisade and came up with an deceptively simple product: a small and versatile attachment to a backpack or bag that can firmly hold an umbrella, giving users the freedom, mobility, and comfort to do other things as they move throughout their day. Not only is this a fantastic idea, their presentation won them the student investor pitch competition and a $2500 prize. What an amazing achievement. Product description and photographs from the JA BC website. Sports day is on Friday June 14. Grade 5 parents will be providing Sports Day Lunch to kick-off their Quebec trip fundraising.
