Thanks to Quebec 2020 and many parent volunteers, this will be the first week of hopefully many, with 3 school lunches. Happy Dance!
Sushi Lunch starts tomorrow … you should have received an email reminder from Munchalunch. If you did not (but thought you ordered), login to Munchalunch and view your orders. Any questions? Email: [email protected] No reminder email/order = Pack a Lunch! You can add an order any time, but sushi and pizza orders must be ordered 6 days in advance of the lunch. C’est Mon Café Tuesday lunches have an order deadline that is less strict (because you are ordering directly form the supplier) … check out their info. You can still order for this Tuesday! Pizza Lunch starts on Wednesday … you should get an email reminder from Munchalunch on Tuesday. Otherwise same applies as for Sushi Lunches! All three lunches are run by parent volunteers and volunteers are needed on all lunch days. It is a great way to connect with students and meet other parents (and see your child at lunch). Is your young student having a tough time adjusting? What a great excuse to come visit them at lunch! The time commitment is 11:30 - 12:30 pm on the lunch day and there is no need to commit to every week. Please contact Jackie Corlett if you would like to volunteer for Monday Sushi Days, Heather MacRitchie for Wednesday Pizza Days, and Christine Powell for C’est Mon Café Tuesdays (you can also sign up for Mondays and Wednesdays over Munchalunch). Thursday was a busy day at Tennyson with the Terry Fox Run, Meet the Teacher evening and Welcome Back Barbecue. But what a fabulous way to end the first month of school!
The annual Terry Fox Run was a fabulous success. Following a whole-school warm-up at the font steps, the intermediate students walked to Connaught Park to run laps around the field, and the primary students ran a new route around the school. The change of venue added to the excitement of the day. A big thank you to Mme Kulokas who organized the whole event and a big shout our to our students who shared Terry Fox's message of hope, courage and determination by running to raise funds to help cancer patients. Donations for the Terry Fox Foundation are still being collected so check back soon for a final total. We couldn't have asked for better weather for the the Meet the Teacher evening and Welcome Back Barbecue. The sunshine and high spirits from the earlier Terry Fox run made for a carnival atmosphere. The hotdogs (which were generously donated by Maple Leaf Foods) salads and treats were delicious and parents and teachers were still happily chatting past 7 pm. Thank you to the teachers who welcomed parents into their classrooms to find out what the year has in store and thank you to Team Purple, aka Quebec 2020 parents and students, who hosted this year's barbecue. Feel free to send along photos if you have some to [email protected] The season opening cross country meet held at Vanier Park was fantastic. The weather was perfect, Coach Chris's motivational speech was inspired, and the Tiger's cheer was a crowd stopper that psyched out lots of the competition.
Our athletes were terrific ambassadors for Tennyson. They cheered on their teammates, ran their heart's out, broke personal bests and some even placed. Congratulations to Grade 1's Nate Hillier who placed 11th and Eli Brittain who placed 13, Molly Brittain who was 3rd in the Grade 3 girls, Kai Martland who took first place in the Gr 7 boy’s race, Aliya Karsan who came second and Rachel Rallison came third in the Gr 7 girl’s race. Feel free to send along results and photos if you have some to [email protected] None of this would be possible without Coach Chris and his team , and our teacher ambassadors (thank you Mme. Renée and M. Thomas for being there today giving out ribbons and cheering on the runners at the finish line). Thank you, you're all awesome! SACY is offering two opportunities this fall for grade 7+ parents to attend a workshop on parenting young teens (or pre-teens!). The workshop is an excellent support to the transition to secondary school, and the transition to parenting an adolescent. Secondary schools are hosting this opportunity for any grade 7 parent, no matter what school their child ultimately attends.
Hello Grade 6 and 7 parents. Please see the following message from the admin team.
Social Media Parent Awareness Letter from M Roch and Mme Vosahlo Quebec 2020 and C’est Mon Café (owned by Tennyson parents) will be serving TUESDAY (yes, you read it correctly, it’s a new day) lunches at Tennyson starting on Tue, Sep 25th!
Ordering will not be through Munchalunch … parents must order directly from the C’est Mon Café website starting September 25th, through Winter Term (you can order by the month or for the whole session). Look for the Tennyson button on their website. Review sample ordering form and then proceed to ordering. It is very important that you know (correctly!) you child’s division number as meals will be delivered to individual division tables. There is much confusion if the division is incorrect and maybe even hungry students. If you have allergy concerns, please contact C’est Mon Café via their website before placing your order. Questions? Please read their Q & A section on the website and then contact them (via their website ) if your question is not answered. The ordering deadline for Sep 25th is Sep 23rd at 7 pm, but ordering in advance is better (thank you). C’est Mon Café DOES NOT send lunch reminder emails so please check your dates (especially if you are only ordering for one month). CHECK & KEEP your order receipts sent by PayPal (after order has been successfully processed). These receipts (called Order Confirmation Emails) will show the lunch dates/meals ordered for your children. If you only order for a month, be sure to order again for the next month or send your child with a lunch. Hungry children are unhappy children! Please refer to their website for lots of great information about what is offered, prices, how to change orders, cancel orders, ordering deadlines, what to do if your child does not receive their meal, etc. Finally, if you are able to volunteer on Tuesdays, please email Christine. It is an easy lunch to help with and gives you an excuse to be at the school. Happy “one less lunch to make”! Sushi Monday and Pizza Wednesday details can be found here. We are looking forward to our annual Meet the Teacher & School and Welcome Back BBQ this Thursday September 27th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The Meet the Teacher & School event will have some teachers offering a presentation and others a drop-in between the hours listed below. Teachers will communicate to you any alternate arrangements (if necessary).
The primary team will be available from 5:00 pm to 5:30 pm in their classrooms to greet families. The intermediate team will be available from 5:30 pm to 6:00 pm in their classrooms to greet families. Please note that Kindergarten Teachers will not be in their classrooms as they have already had entry meetings with all families, but will attend the barbecue. A big thank you to members of our parent community for organizing the barbecue and to our teachers for all of their work with our students. We look forward to seeing you there! Doug & Regina Tennyson Admin Team We are looking for spare iphone/ipad chargers with the newest attachment (eg. for iphone 6, 7, 8). We know that families sometimes have extras that they do not need, and we are happy to take these off your hands. We do purchase new technology as needed, but also like to re-use cables for our ipads as it is environmentally friendly and cost-effective. Please drop any spare chargers at the office. Merci! Peer Tutoring is a wonderful program here at Tennyson with a long standing tradition. For the past twenty years, Grade 6 students have been tutoring their Grade 3 peers in French reading and writing. With the guidance of Tennyson resource teacher and parent volunteer monitors, the Grade 6 students have read with their younger peers and then helped them with their written responses all in French. The Grade 3 students also receive kind and specific feedback which then motivates them to improve their French language skills. Peer tutoring is beneficial to our students by providing them with an amazing opportunity to share ideas, organize learning activities, collaborate with each other and make friendships that extend beyond the classroom.
The program runs on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9 to 9:30 am in the library from October 2, 2018 year-round. We are looking for French speaking parent volunteers on one or two of these days for the half an hour in the morning. We will provide training. If you are interested, please let Mme Regina Vosahlo know as soon as possible at [email protected] or in person at my office at Tennyson. |
