Fire & Flower empowers self-identified girls and non-binary youth in their incredible transition or rite of passage into adolescence. Through mentorship, nature connection, and community-building, we create a space of radical acceptance for youth to know, feel, see and express how amazing they are, just as they are. Participants build confidence and pride in being themselves and moving on to their next significant stage in life. This is a LGBTQ2SIAP+ inclusive space, and a space where we honour each other’s ancestry.
Throughout the week, we explore relevant topics about the female body and growing up, and integrate the learning with nature time, crafts, and fun games. A parent/caregiver is invited to join us on Friday afternoon for facilitated quality time with their child. Groups are small with only 6-12 participants to maximize connection & intimacy. It’s like a 5-day sleepover without actually sleeping over! We were delighted that so many amazingly talented vendors, who also happen to be Tennyson parents, shared their wares at this year’s Spring Fling Makers Market. There were 15 tables at the Makers Market with a range of hand-made goods and some second hand books being sold for charity.
Thank you to Julia for suggesting and organizing the market; we think it really added to the Spring Fling and provided the opportunity for us to celebrate and support the talent in the Tennyson community. We’ve put together a list of all the vendors with their contact information (the names are linked to emails or to their website) to make it easy for you to contact them for more information about products. Spring Fling Makers Market Vendors
We lucked out again this year with perfect weather, on Thursday, May 23, for the Spring Fling. DJ RocknBeau played one crowd-pleaser after another in the courtyard, and had the audience jumping and singing all night.
There was all sorts of fun to be had at the party. The face-painters were a big hit, decorating children's faces all night. It was fantastic to see Mme Kerri and members of the SOGI club hosting a table again this year. The Spring Fling banner was a lovely colouring activity (we'll be sure to hang it somewhere for everyone to enjoy) and lots of kids had fun running races on the field. Tennyson Community Spirit was on full display at this year's event with Tennyson parents sharing their creations at the Makers Market. We were wowed by their creativity and talent. And the food! It was truly delicious. Thanks to the families that baked the delicious treats for the bake sale, and the three food trucks, Meet2Eat, ChouChou Crepes, and Puerto Tacos (owned by a Tennyson family), no-one went hungry. Thank you to everyone who planned and organized the event and to all the volunteers who helped out on the night. You're all wonderful! If you have any pictures you want to share on the blog from the party please email them to pac@lordtennyson.ca Life is busy and the idea of taking on more responsibility is never appealing. However, joining the PAC Executive doesn't have to be a chore.
There is only one meeting a month, and it's not the end of the world if you can't make it sometimes. And, being a member of the executive doesn’t make you responsible for running PAC events or for hitting the fundraising goals. There are lots of other Tennyson parents who are happy to take on running things. As a member of the Executive your priority is to represent the parents when discussing issues with the school administration. As well, you will agree how much money the PAC needs to raise for initiatives and decide how it will be spent. So what are the top three reasons to join the PAC Executive?
