Remember that awesome, fresh September version of yourself?!? We were all so keen and eager ... this was going to be the year we "nailed it"!
Let's bring that version back and pull it together for the much-loved, eagerly-awaited Tennyson Staff Appreciation Luncheon. This is our opportunity to provide a lovely lunch for all of the Tennyson staff. This year we are trying something a little crazy ... hosting the lunch on a Pro D Day - Friday, June 10. That way, the staff can really enjoy the lunch without being rushed and the admin and office staff can enjoy without having to stop to apply bandaids to hurt children! How can you help?
Please email Barbara if you can help on Friday, June 10 (set up in the morning and clean up in the afternoon). Here is last year's blog entry with photos ... just to inspire you! Thanks everyone! Our grade 7s, their parents, and their teachers have just finished hosting Quebec students for a week and what a week it was! Whistler, Shannon Falls, paddle boarding at Jericho, Gastown, Chinatown with dim sum lunch, Fly Over Canada, hiking in Lynn Canyon, biking the Stanley Park Seawall, the Aquarium, and finally a beach bbq in the sunshine at Locarno tonight. Happy and exhausted! The parents would like to thank Mme Lorieau, M Brian, Mme Teckert, and Mme Cynthia for all of their support with the exchange. Did you know?
May 30th – June 4th 2016 is Safe Kids Week with Parachute Canada, raising awareness of top injury issues that affect children. Check out these great resources to help keep kids active and safe at home, at play and on the road. Here are the winning cupcakes from Spring Fling's Cupcake Contest ... thank you to all participants. Thanks to the judges: Mme Wong, Mme Rouleau, Mme Lyse & Mme Lichimo. Each of the five winning entries receives one $5.00 gift card for Menchies. Encore Musical Theatre Company is a company for Vancouver kids in grades 4 through 9 who LOVE musical theatre. If your son/daughter would like to audition, they should come see this year's show!
Awarded the Guinness World Records title for Longest Running Annual Musical Theatre Production, Anne of Green Gables is the classic tale of an orphan girl, Anne, who rises from destitution to happiness in the farm country of Charlottetown, PEI, entirely by virtue of her pluck and personality. Anne's adventures at Green Gables, the farm owned by her new caretakers (Matthew and Marilla) and her new friends at school (including Gilbert Blythe, Diana Barry & Josie Pye) are both comical and heartwarming. Performance Dates Thursday, June 9 at 7pm Friday, June 10 at 7pm Saturday, June 11 at 2pm (matinee) Saturday, June 11 at 7pm General Admission for all shows is $15.00. It is great fun for the whole family! The show is at the Norman Rothstein Theatre in Vancouver (Oak & 41st). To purchase tickets, go to Encore's website (www.encoremusicaltheatre.org) click on the link that says "Click here to purchase tickets" You will be asked to say which performer you are coming to see ... you can just use "Tennyson" (or Jay, Amelia, or Rhiley). Thanks for supporting our students! A huge shout out to all of the Track & Field students in their Tennyson orange today. The students did a great job and tried their best. We would like to single out Sidney & Romeo in Grade 5 for good sportsmanship ... they let others take their place so everyone could run. We think there was also some compromising amongst the Grade 3 girls (I just don't have the names). Thanks to all of the students and a HUGE thanks to all of the parent coaches and to M. Carrier and Mme. Alain for attending the district meet. Here is a link to more photos. Thanks to the excellent spelling of Lord Tennyson students and thanks to the fundraising efforts of those students and thanks to the generosity of their families and friends ... the PAC raised over $15,000 in this year’s Spell-a-thon! Over 80 students received prizes for their efforts, with more than 3/4 of those going in random prize draws to any child who participated and the others going to our biggest fundraisers. Prizes had been kindly donated by Kidsbooks, Dairy Queen on Broadway and on Dunbar, Kaboodles and 4Cats on West 10th, Drexol Games, London Drugs on Broadway and Vine, as well as some parents. The classes of Mme Lapierre and M Carrier will each receive a pizza party for being the divisions that raised the most money. The funds raised have allowed the PAC to exceed their fundraising goal for the 2015/16 school year and will allow Lord Tennyson to continue to enhance the educational experience provided to our children. MERCI BEAUCOUP!!
