Tennyson Strings Newsletter - December 2014 Here is an article about the concept of 'free play' and how important it is for brain development:
Scientists Say 'Child's Play' Helps Build A Better Brain. http://www.npr.org/blogs/ed/2014/08/06/336361277/scientists-say-childs-play-helps-build-a-better-brain Thanks for all of the great coaching, Goran! The Jr Girls volleyball team enjoyed a wrap up party on Friday in the gym after a super season. Thanks also to Giuliana and Christine for helping Goran.
The Winterfest Team would like to thank the student performers for making last night so special. I think many of us still have goosebumps from Maddi singing Hallelujah and we are sad that Gr 7 Lauren's days of singing as a Tennyson student are numbered. Luckily we all get to hear Maria again the week of Dec 15 when she plays piano during the morning Christmas carol singing. And we are already looking forward to seeing what Ollie & Luke come up with for Spring Fling. We had guitarists, violinists, dancers, pianists, singers, and even a couple of rappers. It was lovely to see all of the Tennyson talent ... we are very proud of every performer! Thank you everyone - we know how long it takes you to prepare to perform. Thank you to all of the parents who came out to support the performers and to support the Gr 6 parents as they raise money for Quebec trips (next year's as well as future trips). We hope you grabbed a few good Christmas presents and some books for your children and also had a chance to visit with friends and maybe even with Santa. See the list of the wine raffle winners here - it did not sound like familiar names to me (still hoping Von Berg is a Tennyson parent at least!). Congratulations to Chandra for winning the Gingerbread House Competition (and there was some stiff competition - thanks to everyone who participated). Laura & Matt are $400 happier after winning the 50/50 draw (I think Karma is at work since Laura knit all of the adorable sock ornaments that Jay, Ava, and Tayte were selling). Finally, the Winterfest Champions, Toni and Shauna, wish to thank the Grade 6 parent group for all of their hard work to pull this together and especially thank them for being an absolute pleasure to work with. The Winterfest Team
