The Gr 6/7 girls basketball team won a hard game against Lord Kitchener. Lord Tennyson was leading most of the time, and it was a tie score just before our girls marked the winning two points. The determination to win was contagious among them, and well supported by a group of mothers cheering from the side line. Monsieur Sylvain Larochelle, the coach, deserves huge credit for training the girls and being one of the referees during the games. Thank you, coach, for doing a fantastic job!
The next game is scheduled at General Gordon Elementary school on Wednesday, February 7 after school. Go Tennyson go! (No pressure!) Thanks to Girls Basketball Blogger, Cristina Ionica, for this report.
Next time you're at the school, drop by in front of the office and cozy up in the new sofa and chairs. There's also a new seating area upstairs at the top of the central staircase for students to enjoy. The library has also geared up with new ottomans for student's reading pleasure. Mme Côté hopes that the upcoming Tote Bag fundraiser will allow her to upgrade the library sitting area even more. Sammy and Noah, good to see you diligently reading on your lunch break! If you're one of the many Twitter users out there, be sure to follow our new feed at @LordTennysonSch. Our News Blog postings will automatically be tweeted out to Twitter-land. Feel free to retweet this message, and if you know anyone else from the Tennyson community who uses Twitter, be sure to let them know. And yes, we're looking into tying more closely to the Tennyson Facebook page. Stay tuned (here or on Twitter)... Get the latest in Tennyson fashion... Tennyson Tote Bags from the school library! Proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards purchasing new furniture for the entrance to the Learning Commons (library). The tote bags are $10 each and will be available before and after school in the school lobby, starting Tuesday, January 29. BC Family French Camp Moniteurs from Quebec Looking for some French fun for the summer? BC Family French Camp registration opened this morning. More info about the camp and registration forms can be found at www.bcffc.com "At BC Family French Camp, children from French Immersion or Programme Cadre bring their families along to camp. Families camp in their own tents or trailers. Together, we form a friendly neighbourhood, surrounded by the sounds of children playing and singing in French." Questions? Email [email protected] to ask Tennyson families who have participated in previous years. Each year, students, parents and teachers alike very much look forward to our school's always entertaining Spring Fling. This fun family event showcases the seemingly limitless talent of Tennyson students and typically gives our Tennyson community a great excuse to spend a fun Friday afternoon at the school! This year's Fling is scheduled for mid-April and needs a Parent Champion (or Co-Champions if you are a team player with a favourite friend) to help ensure another successful, organized event is enjoyed by all. What's involved you wonder? As the focus is on the ever popular talent show, your main task will be to ensure it is organized (e.g., sign-up sheets for students who wish to perform; performance schedule prepared, sound/light logistics on the night of in place and, the ever-coveted, EMCEE role filled). Typically, raffle baskets are also organized (there are parent volunteers from previous years who can provide some excellent tips on how to efficiently and easily accomplish this task). Of course, the Parent Champion(s) is(are) most welcome to bring new and creative ideas too! Your reward? First, though you may not think it possible, your child will love you even more :) Second, all the Tennyson children will love you more :) Third, you undoubtedly will meet other Tennyson parents and make some new friends :) - they will probably love you too! Finally, all the delicious food that we have become accustomed to will be arranged by the Quebec 2014 group - merci!!! Please contact [email protected] if you are interested in volunteering or have any questions. We would love to have you onboard! - Your PAC Executive Lunch ordering will be open from Monday, Jan 14 - Monday, Jan 21. This ordering will cover all lunch days in February, March, and April.
Pizza options will remain the same. Pizza Menu 1 and Menu 2 cover alternating Wednesdays so you MUST order from BOTH menus if you would like pizza every week. This saves time when ordering but still allows the flexibility to introduce variety on the pizza days (in case your child wants to alternate between cheese and pepperoni pizza, for example). Sushi Mondays - we are going 100% Zero Waste thanks to Janine and the sushi team. All sushi will continue to be served in reusable containers and water (in a cup) will be provided with every order. Food waste gets carted home to a volunteer's yard trimming bin. Wow! There will not be an option to order juice on Mondays with sushi ... thank you for supporting this wonderful cause. One new menu item will be introduced ... half cucumber / half California roll (4 pieces of each) for $3.25. Sushi is being provided LOCALLY by Aoki Sushi at Cypress and Broadway. Thank you to Zee from Aoki Sushi for purchasing all of the reusable containers. As always, your Hot Lunch questions can be sent to [email protected]. A huge THANK YOU goes out to the many parent volunteers who keep our children well-fed on Mondays and Wednesdays ... Hot Lunches would not exist without their dedication. Thank you! Exciting news in the world of Strings! Mme Fong has created a new Strings Website for both parents and students. The blog will include weekly homework assignments, recordings of pieces, tuning videos and other news and information. The blog will be updated weekly, so please check it regularly! We've created a permanent link to the Strings Website in the Classes menu at www.lordtennyson.ca. A Strings newsletter also went home today with more information. |
