Please check out the Lost & Found. Everything is on display in the main hallway. We have thousands of dollars worth of items - with 62 hoodies, odds are 1 in 7 that you own one of them! The items will be donated at the end of the week so come on by and grab what belongs to your children. We had a lovely kick-off to the week with carolling this morning in the lobby.
Thanks to Gr 7 student Rachel for playing the piano and to Bernie for playing the guitar. Come join the fun every morning this week from 8:30am - 8:55am! A number of Grade 6 girls are interested in playing basketball this year but they need a coach!
The season starts in January and is done by the end of February/first week in March. There is already a teacher sponsor but the school is looking for any parents that would be interested in coaching too. It could be one parent or a group if you want to share the fun. Whatever you can do to make this happen for the girls. If you can help please contact Vice Principal, Mme Vosahlo. The new C'est mon Cafe menu is now available for ordering for the new year.
The Tuesday lunches (C'est mon Cafe lunches) have only been ordered until the end of 2018. If you would like to continue C'est mon Cafe lunches on Tuesday you need to reorder for the new year. The menu and online order form of 2019 has been uploaded to their website, www.cestmoncafe.com. Monday and Wednesday lunches through Munchalunch goes through January so you will need to re-order in mid January in order to continue with Sushi and Pizza. We'll tell you about that closer to the time. Come to the lobby and join the caroling fun next week December 17-21 from 8.30-the first bell. Thank you to our wonderful pianists Rachel Rallison and Scarlet Niven (Grade 7) and guitarist, Bernie (Ryo and Novi’s dad) who will be accompanying the singers this week.
We can safely say this lovely event is becoming a Tennyson tradition. You can see pictures from past events here, 2012, 2013 and 2015 and more families are joining in each year. How amazing are TOSS students who hosted a bake sale and ran other fundraising events in order to buy essentials including clothes, toiletries and sleeping bagd and about $800 in gift cards for youth in need.
Grade 4 TOSS students brought the donations to the Vancouver Courier office who will deliver them to Directions Youth Services, an organization that supports at-risk and street-involved youth under the age of 25 in Vancouver. Check out the Vancouver Courier article about their generosity. In November, TOSS (Lord Tennyson Out-of-School Care) was awarded a 2018 Child Care Legacy Award for their valuable contributions to support early care and learning in British Columbia.
The Child Care Legacy Awards recognize licensed child care facilities and providers that have provided more than 40 years of service in BC. MLA George Heyman visited TOSS and presented the award to Kathy Quinn. Congratulations to Kathy and the TOSS team! Your outstanding care and dedication to our children deserves this recognition. You can read the full press release from the provincial government here At the recent PW Mini Winter Formal, all of the Tennyson alumni who go to the school gathered for a photo. Like Mme Lavoie said so many years ago, "Once a Tennyson Tiger, always a Tennyson Tiger"!
From left to right: Jenny (Gr 10), Jay (Gr 10), Izzy (Gr 8), Max (Gr 12), Eric (Gr 10) and Charlotte (Gr 9) Thank you Grade 6 parents and students for a wonderful Winterfest! The school looked amazing, the silent auction prizes were spectacular and the food was delicious.
I love Winterfest! Tennyson students are so talented that the show is always amazing and the support they get from the audience is incredible. The Grinch's heart would definitely grow three sizes watching the students perform and cheer each other on. There were lots of fun activities besides the talent show. The arts and crafts room was busy all night and the line up for the photo booth was half way down the hall. The silent auction, wine raffle and 50-50 draws kept the night exciting. I have to give a big shout out to our MC's for the night, John and Niki Boyd, whose delivery was spot on and short blast of Wonderwall during the Name that Tune quiz made my night. Thank you to everyone who came out and supported the Quebec 2020 students fundraiser. Your contribution is much appreciated! The win raffle winners are:
If you placed a successful bid on a Silent Auction item, you can pick it up this week at the Did you win at Winterfest or order Purdy's Chocolates? Pick up is this week, before or after school, at the Winterfest “store” located in the Tennyson basement (just west of the cafeteria, beside the kindergarten classroom 017). Cash, cheques (made out to Quebec 2020), or credit card are accepted (cash/cheque are preferred). Thanks to our Tennyson 2020 committee and the generosity of some local businesses, our sand box corner now has lots of new toys to fire the students' imaginations and a giant gazebo to keep them dry.
The sandboxes that M Carrier and his Division 10 students created have been a big hit with the students in all grades. Recognizing how popular they are, the Tennyson 2020 committee approached some local business for toys to add to the supply donated by parents so there would be plenty of toys to go round. Granville Island Toy Company on Main Street donated Green Toy buckets, trucks, and stackable blocks and Hip Baby on 4th Avenue donated sand shapes and soft catch games for students to play with indoors. Thanks to their generosity we're now well stocked with toys for the coming months. It's lovely to see students from different grades collaborating on a construction project with the trucks or having a birthday party with a big sandy birthday cake. The Tennyson 2020 committee, which is looking at the outdoor landscaping (including the playground equipment), furnishings and new technology needed in the new school, is looking for new members. Their next meeting will be in January and will focus on playground design and fundraising. Anyone is welcome to join no matter the size of commitment they are interested in making. Email [email protected] and let them know what you can do. And if you still have holiday shopping to do you might find just what you need at Granville Island Toy Company and Hip Baby. |
