Need holiday childcare?: nanny available from Dec 26 - Jan 5

11/24/2017

Are your kids out of school over Christmas break and you need a temporary nanny from December 26 - Jan 5?

My name is Alyssa and I am 26 years old and am currently working as a nanny 3 days a week and going to school for Criminology while currently in the application process with the RCMP. I have the Christmas break off and am available to help with your children!

I have my ECE (Early Childhood Education) certificate and current First Aid/CPR. I have worked in daycares and as a personal nanny, as well as a casual babysitter for many families over the years. I also have a vehicle with a full drivers license so I am willing to drive anywhere in Vancouver or surrounding areas. I have experience with all ages from newborn and up, as well as experience with twins and multiple children! Cooking & light housework are not an issue! I absolutely adore children and love having fun and playing games, all while ensuring a safe environment!

Rates negotiable depending on number of children/needs. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me at aleblevec@hotmail.com or 778-549-7781!

Action on Out-of-School Care Vancouver Petition

11/20/2017

A petition has been created by a new advocacy group (Action on Out-of-School Care Vancouver).

The petition asks   for   four things:
  1. Make changes to the Lord Tennyson Elementary design that   do not delay  the project but   do create  more out-of-school care spaces.
  2. Confirm that – at a minimum – the existing 105 out-of-school care spaces at Lord Tennyson Elementary   will be replaced    in the new school   without relying  on the third floor (City of Vancouver) space.
  3. Work with the Vancouver School Board, City of Vancouver, and Vancouver Coastal Health to provide a coordinated strategy  and approach to  maximize  out-of-school care spots in existing and new schools.
  4. Make accommodating and expanding out-of-school care a  required part  of design for future redevelopment and seismic upgrade projects.
If you would like more information, or would like to sign the petition, please check out the link here.

SACY workshops for Gr 7 parents

11/17/2017

“Building Bridges with your Teen” looks at the developmental changes (social, emotional and cognitive) of adolescence and explores ways our parenting can shift to accommodate these changes. The parent-child relationship is a strong protective factor for youth during the teen years and our ability to keep the lines of communication open and the relationship strong are key to supporting youth in healthy decisions across a number of areas (from academics to friendships to substance use and more).
The workshops are interactive and lively, and parents regularly comment how useful they are in practical skills to reduce tension and support youth.

Please check out the dates and more information here.

Gr 4/5 Ski & Snowboard Pass

11/5/2017

Attention Gr 4 & 5 students and parents:

Do you want to ski and ride for practically free this winter?
The Canadian Ski Council’s SnowPass lets you ski and ride 3 times at EACH participating ski area for $29.95.
That’s a lot of skiing and snowboarding right across Canada!

To get a pass, you need to be in grade 4 or 5 (or 9 or 10 years old) and live in Canada.
You only need to apply once for a  SnowPass   and it’s  valid until the end of grade 5.
This means if you apply in grade 4, the pass is valid for two years.

Here are the details and website to register.
And here is a list of ski mountains that the pass can be used at.
Grouse, Seymour, and Whistler are on the list but Cypress has its own Gr4/5 pass (limited quantity - look into it early).
