Organized by 2 Byng students, Lord Byng Secondary is excited to be hosting the first ever west side recycling depot run by Pacific Mobile Depots on April 20th from 9am - Noon in the school parking lot. This service will be held  the third Saturday of every month.

For a small fee you can recycle many things not collected by your municipal waste collection system. We will accept soft plastics, hard plastics (#1-6), dairy and non-dairy cartons (Tetra Paks), batteries, computers, bike tires and tubes and much more!

Check out Pacific Mobile Depots for more information, or email Carol-Ann Kunimoto with any questions. All proceeds go towards recycling costs and supporting the Lord Byng Environmental Club.

Zero Waste Sushi Lunch (with photos)

2/4/2013

We are thrilled to be providing Zero Waste sushi lunches and thank the students for their support.  Thank you to Janine Brossard (ZeroWaste@lordtennyson.ca) who is Food Safe certified and stays on to wash all of the cups after the lunch.  Also a huge thank you to the YMCA After School Care who is sharing their kitchen space with us so that we can make this happen!
Today was the first (of many) sushi lunches where a cup of water is provided with every order.  The responses were varied and quite fun.  We heard some gleeful cheers of "Yay! I get a cup of water!".  We also had a number of students ask "What is this?".  When we replied "It is water", some even asked "What do I do with it?".  What fun!

All sushi is provided in reusable containers, water is provided in ceramic mugs, and soy sauce is in large bottles.  All food waste (and those tiny slips of paper that you see) is walked home to a volunteer parent's Yard Trimmings bin.

Tennyson's First Zero-Waste Event

9/21/2012

Quebec 2014 is proud to announce Tennyson's first (but not last) ZERO WASTE event!

Couldn't find a garbage can at last night's BBQ?
We all saw Janine Brossard and her recycling station, but did you know that exactly ZERO "garbage" was created at the Welcome Back BBQ?

No garbage resulted from the BBQ - nothing will end up in a landfill or incinerator!

Where did it all go?
  • All plastics (soft/hard): Pacific Mobile Depot
  • All Juice boxes & plastic water bottle: Encorp
  • All metal/aluminium: CoV blue box recycling
  • All food waste: CoV green bin composting
  • All food based paper waste (napkins, burger paper, plates):  CoV green bin composting
  • Paper cups: Pacific Mobile Depot

A huge thank you to Janine for making this happen.
