The Halloween Howl is the main (but not only) example of the incredible volunteer spirit that makes Tennyson such a great school -- not just for the kids, but for all of us parents as well. The creativity shown by both students and parents is unparalleled: the pumpkins were amazing, the costumes were wonderful (and scary!), the activities and rooms fun, and the haunted house terrifying.
A VSB rep who attended was completely blown away, saying "This is EPIC!" Way to go Tennyson! See more photos at our Howl 2012 Photo Gallery. The transformation of the school started Thursday night with over 50 volunteers working the evening away. Setup will continue starting at 3:00pm Friday... please drop by if you can! The Howl starts at 6:30pm -- don't miss it! A big thank you to Ward and Borja for all their work, once again. We just couldn't resist posting this photo from last year!
Congratulations to the more than 60 Tennyson Tigers who ran -- we are proud of all of you!
Here are top finishers:
A huge thank you goes to coaches Chris Fuoco, Ed Sernoski, and Karoly Barna, to team manager Beth Elliott, and to today's snack-master Kyle Beauliv. This year's Festival du Livre was a huge success, raising over $2000 in book credits to put books in our classrooms. This will provide $100 of book credits to each teacher, $100 to the Learning Assistance Centre and $100 to the library. Next up will be the English Book Fair in the Spring. Thanks to Shauna Farrell for organizing and to the many volunteer helpers. Happy reading! The beloved Lord Tennyson gymnasium was officially opened on October 23, 1957... 55 years ago today! Read about this and more on the Tennyson History page! (Thanks Jenn)
The annual Pumpkin Patch is coming to Tennyson on Tuesday, Oct 23. What a sight! Hundreds of pumpkins in the field - pick your favourite! Open from 1pm - 6pm. Come check it out when you pick up your kids from school. Pumpkins are $5 each (proceeds support the Quebec 2014 trip) - please bring a bag to carry it away in.
RBC combined with "Free the Children" are using the pennies to provide clean drinking water to communities around the world. See you Tuesday afternoon! A huge THANK YOU to Wee-Tote. They have donated their time and truck to pick up and deliver the pumpkins from Chilliwack.
And some tweets from the We Day twitter feed (thanks Karen):
Just for fun, here's some info on the traffic to www.lordtennyson.ca. We use Google Analytics to anonymously log visitors to the site and which pages they visit. We're currently seeing about 50-80 visitors per day, with an obvious dip on weekends: We saw a big spike at the beginning of September when the site was first launched for back-to-school, and again on September 18 when Hot-Lunch ordering opened. Our biggest day was on September 24 when the Noon Hour Program ordering opened. Here are our most popular pages (note that "/" and "/index.html" are both the home page). Yep, the Howl page is #1 right now! But where are all the visitors to the Tennyson History page? (currently ranked #34 - maybe worth a visit???)
Parents, school staff, and students... Making a poster, t-shirt, newsletter or school project?!?! Download the new logo from the Tenny Logo page and use it everywhere! A huge thanks to Walter Hsieh, father of Ava and Audrey, for designing the new Tenny logo as part of our website design project. |
