Best Howl Yet!

10/28/2012

Friday night's Halloween Howl was a spooktacular success!

With over 800 attendees, Howl 2012 night will be remembered for years to come as one of the best ever.

A huge thank you goes out to the over 120 volunteers filling 180 shifts, 20 room leaders and  50  cake-bakers (and, especially to 1 Borja and 1 Ward without whom the event wouldn't happen).
The Halloween Howl is the main (but not only) example of the incredible volunteer spirit that makes Tennyson such a great school -- not just for the kids, but for all of us parents as well.  The creativity shown by both students and parents is unparalleled: the pumpkins were amazing, the costumes were wonderful (and scary!), the activities and rooms fun, and the haunted house terrifying.

A VSB rep who attended was completely blown away, saying "This is EPIC!"

Way to go Tennyson!

A big thank you to Ward and Borja for all their work, once again. We just couldn't resist posting this photo from last year!

The VSB District-wide Cross Country Meet was held at Trout Lake today, and the Tennyson Tigers were there in force to finish off the season.

Over 3000 students from all Vancouver elementary schools ran, with the top 25 finishers in each grade winning a placement ribbon.
Congratulations to the more than 60 Tennyson Tigers who ran -- we are proud of all of you!

10/24/2012

This year's Festival du Livre was a huge success, raising over $2000 in book credits to put books in our classrooms. This will provide $100 of book credits to each teacher, $100 to the Learning Assistance Centre and $100 to the library.

Next up will be the English Book Fair in the Spring.

Thanks to Shauna Farrell for organizing and to the many volunteer helpers.

Happy reading!

Happy Birthday Gym!

10/23/2012

The beloved Lord Tennyson gymnasium was officially opened on October 23, 1957... 55 years ago today! Read about this and more on the Tennyson History page! (Thanks Jenn)

Pumpkins Pumpkins Everywhere

10/23/2012

Today's Pumpkin Patch was a big success with over 250 pumpkins sold!

A little rain didn't stop a lot of kids and parents from having fun in the patch, enjoying some music and getting in the Halloween spirit.

Thank you to everyone who came out to grab a pumpkin and to all our Grade 6 helpers.

We still have a lot of great looking pumpkins left, which will be on sale on the school steps before and after school on Wednesday and Thursday.

Thank you from Quebec 2014!

Pumpkin Patch arrives Tuesday

The annual Pumpkin Patch is coming to Tennyson on Tuesday, Oct 23.
What a sight!  Hundreds of pumpkins in the field - pick your favourite!

Open from 1pm - 6pm.  Come check it out when you pick up your kids from school.

Pumpkins are $5 each (proceeds support the Quebec 2014 trip) - please bring a bag to carry it away in.
  • Students who have $5 will be able to leave class on Tuesday to get a pumpkin
Please also bring all of your (soon to be worthless) pennies.
RBC combined with "Free the Children" are using the pennies to provide clean drinking water to communities around the world.

See you Tuesday afternoon!

A huge THANK YOU to Wee-Tote.
They have donated their time and truck to pick up and deliver the pumpkins from Chilliwack.

This past Thursday, 28 lucky Grade 6 and 7 Tennyson  students attended We Day  at Rogers Arena.

We Day is "a free full-day educational event inclusive of many great causes in our local, national and global community".

Speakers and performers included Desmond Tutu, Magic Johnson, Holly Branson (daughter of Richard), Demi Lovato, One Republic, and many more.

Students were selected based on mini-essays written about We Day.

For more information on We Day, check out:
And some tweets from the We Day twitter feed (thanks Karen):

www.lordtennyson.ca Traffic

10/21/2012

Just for fun, here's some info on the traffic to www.lordtennyson.ca. We use Google Analytics to anonymously log visitors to the site and which pages they visit.

We're currently seeing about 50-80 visitors per day, with an obvious dip on weekends:

We saw a big spike at the beginning of September when the site was first launched for back-to-school, and again on September 18 when Hot-Lunch ordering opened. Our biggest day was on September 24 when the Noon Hour Program ordering opened.

Here are our most popular pages (note that "/" and "/index.html" are both the home page).

Yep, the Howl page is #1 right now! But where are all the visitors to the Tennyson History page? (currently ranked #34 - maybe worth a visit???)
