The PAC AGM is Monday, June 15th, and we'd love to see you there (via Teams). We will finalize our budget as well as vote in new PAC Executive members for the upcoming school year. Tennyson offers a multitude of enrichment opportunities to enhance our children's learning, development and school experience from hot lunches to school technology. This magic only happens because of parent volunteers: an hour a year or an hour a day. If you have time to give, we have an opening for you. No experience necessary.

Tuesday June 9th 7PM - VSB Budget 2020/21 townhall meeting reminderThis year’s budget process has been delayed by COVID, but the work is continuing. We will have VSB staff answering budget questions at an online townhall this Tuesday, June 9th. Trustees will also be invited to attend to hear parent concerns. We have created a survey so you can provide your questions to be answered and we have also included some survey questions from the VSB regarding your priorities. With so many uncertainties this year, it is important to know your priorities in case costs are higher than anticipated. Please submit questions using this form by Monday morning here - we’ve included the draft budget and some other Q&A for your reference. You can register to attend the townhall here. This meeting is open to all VSB parents. I want to open this post with a huge thank you to Barabara Arenson who has been diligently cancelling hot lunches to make sure no-one is out of pocket. We really appreciate everything you do for the Tennyson community.
The message below is from Barbara. A couple of months have passed since I last emailed you. Although there is actually not more certainty, it is certain, that we’re are getting used to things, and then they are getting changed up, again. I had to say good bye to my weekly ritual, cancelling the hot lunches and canceled all the remaining lunches. That is done, now. There are no more hot lunches for this school year.
AutismBC proudly presents:
“Social Emotional Learning for Youth with ASD at Extraordinary Times” by Bohdanna Popowycz, M.Ed., BCBA Date: Friday June 19, 2020 Time: 10-11:30AM Place: Zoom and Facebook Live During these uncertain times, and with school coming to a close, how does a parent take the summer and continue to work on social emotional learning, and soft skill ‘teaching’? Let’s be creative and discuss what can be done at home with both leisure skills and growth in independence skills for teens with autism. We will talk about some ideas, how to break this down into teaching components and discuss how this can ‘hit’ some of the important soft skills as well as the mechanics (hard skills) needed to be successful in high school and beyond! Speaker: Bohdanna Popowycz M.Ed., BCBA Bohdanna has been involved with individuals on the autism spectrum from toddlers to adults since the early 90’s. Her background and education, specifically in autism, started in the States under the supervision, guidance and training at a Lovaas Replication Site. This allowed Bohdanna the honour and privilege to move to different countries and learn from various professionals in the field. She and her family moved to British Columbia in 2001 where she began building relationships with schools in the Lower Mainland. She, along with parent advocates started Harmony House CARES, and currently works closely with school districts across the Lower Mainland (e.g. life and practical skills coordinator/consultant with a local school) and in the States. One of her current passions is working together with families and all stakeholders to build solid IEPs and plans, in which functional and useful transitions can be made for the betterment of a youth’s life as they learn and grow towards adulthood. Bohdanna is the proud mother of 3 amazing kids. Mark your calendar. Log on to Facebook page “Autism BC” at 10AM Friday June 19th to participate in this Facebook Live workshop. Send your request for Zoom link to [email protected] if you do not have Facebook account. |
