All the classes at Tennyson had an exciting opportunity to learn more about biology, chemistry and physics from UBC’s Geering Up for Science students. Taught in French, the students learned about molecules, ecosystems, forces and electricity depending on the grade level. The classes especially enjoyed participating in interactive experiments and hands-on projects.
Thank you to Tennyson PAC for sponsoring such a great learning opportunity for all our students. Thank you for all of the financial support this year, Tennyson parents! This post, written by Vice Principal Regina Vosahlo, was originally posted on the VSB's Lord Tennyson Elementary School web page. Check it regularly for school news. Thank you to Barbara and her team for a wonderful Staff Appreciation Lunch. Here is a message from the admin team: We are writing to thank you for organizing the most amazing luncheon today. Our whole staff gathered together and enjoyed the delicious selections that you prepared while reading the lovely cards of appreciation from our parent community. Thanks to you we were able to relax and enjoy everyone’s wonderful company! The thank you messages, letters and cards from the parent community were heartfelt and our staff was truly touched by them. Sincerely, Doug and Regina Karen Flamenco presents the classic story of Cinderella on Jun 16th (7pm) & 17th (2pm) at the Vancouver Playhouse!

Students, parents and staff are encouraged to ride their bike to and from school during that week. Let's see which class has the most riders during the week.
Riding your bike is lots of fun, healthy and a social way to exercise, be independent, and get around your community! If you are able to help out during Bike to School Week please email Tai Scott at taiscott@mac.com. Looking forward to seeing many of you on your bike! A huge thank you to all the students, parents and staff who supported this year’s Spellathon. We raised $13487.59, a tremendous result! The funds raised will be used to provide additional programs and educational resources beyond those provided by the VSB and government in order to significantly enhance the educational experience provided to our children.
Sixty-five students (the top fundraisers and names pulled in a random draw) were invited to pick a prize as a reward for their efforts. The prizes, all generously donated by Tennyson families, Kidsbooks, London Drugs, Tangram Creamery and Trees Organics, included Lego, games, books, gift cards, toys and mystery packages. A few students who's names were drawn were away on a field trip on Friday. We have held back some prizes and will get them to those students next week. And a big shout out to Division 5 who raised the most funds this year and will be celebrating with a a pizza lunch. Congratulations! Finally, thank you to all the teachers, family members and friends who supported our spellers, the parents who helped coordinate the event, and most importantly, the students who worked so hard to learn their dictee. The City of Vancouer is working on an update to their High-Density Housing for Children with Families Guidelines. This document is a design guideline intended to help create better apartment buildings for families with children.
The goal is to improve the overall diversity, flexibility, and livability of family units in Vancouver’s apartments and condos so that they are viable choices for longer-term family living. Specifically, the City is looking to hear from families with children who live in an apartment, have lived in an apartment before, or would consider living in an apartment. You are invited to take a short online survey up right now that is open until May 22, 2018 at vancouver.ca/familyroom. Check out the May 9 newsletter published by M. Roch and Mme Vosahlo.
They included many fun photos of school events. Calling all track & field enthusiasts! Please see the above poster for information on our 2018 Summer Camps held at West Point Grey Academy School each week in July. Thunderbirds Track and Field Camps are an excellent way to improve and refine the skills learned in our School Outreach and Making Track Fun programs, while also enjoying a variety of games and activities. Our camps provide a low coach-to-athlete ratio, meaning that the kids will enjoy extensive quality instruction from our energetic coaching staff. The flyer has all of the information regarding dates, prices and registration. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me at jenny@thunderbirdstrack.org.
Our camps are filling up quickly, but there is still room to register! Please feel free to add the attachment to your school newsletters, or post on your school's bulletin board! |
