After months of effort, Tennyson's Stream of Dreams was completed today -- come check out the fence in front of the school to see this school-wide art project. The over 400 fish were painted by Tennyson students over the past week.
Thank you to the Jo-Ann Gordon and the Tennyson Fine Arts committee, the Kitsilano Secondary Shop Program, General Paint, Pacific Salmon Foundation, Louise and Coral from the Stream of Dreams Mural Society, the many parent volunteers, and to the students of Lord Tennyson for their amazing artwork. This project was sponsored and funded by the Tennyson PAC. The Stream of Dreams is a community art program with a goal of helping people understand their connections to water and fish habitat and how to make behavioural changes to protect streams, rivers, lakes and our one ocean. Stream of Dreams is a program of the Stream of Dreams Mural Society. Founded in the Lower Mainland, Stream of Dream murals have been created and installed across the country. For more information, visit the Stream of Dreams website. Thanks to the generous cash donations for the staff appreciation lunch a couple weeks ago, we had a few extra dollars and were able to drop off a surprise treat for the Tennyson staff today at recess. Thank you to Fabrice from Plaisir Sucré (on Arbutus) for giving us a great deal.

Parents who volunteered this year (practically everyone!) were treated to a lovely breakfast this morning. Highlights included visiting with each other and also with the teachers, listening to the Gr 1 classes sing songs and to the Gr 4 Strings students perform, and the heartfelt thank you from Mme Lavoie.
To quote Mme Lavoie: "Tennyson is great because of the parents." Thank you for the great way to start the day! The Tennyson SPCA Club had a great visit with Krystal Brennan of the Wildlife Rescue Association a couple of weeks ago. She shared with the club the kind of work they do and some tips on what to do if kids see a wild animal or bird needing help. The kids had a chance to hold some of her wing specimens (see photos below). A huge thank you to Anne-Marie Johnston (Astrid's Mom) who sponsored this presentation.
The club has wrapped up for the year but hopes to get together in some form again next year! Thank you to Beth Elliott for submitting this blog post. |
