10th Avenue Bike Route

10/29/2015

Here is a link in case you would like to provide input into the 10th Avenue bikeway that runs right past   Tennyson.    http://vancouver.ca/streets-transportation/10th-avenue-corridor-project.aspx

Here is some more information from the city:

A top priority of Transportation 2040 is to upgrade the 10th Avenue Corridor to be more safe, convenient, comfortable, and fun for people of all ages and abilities to walk and cycle.
The 10th Avenue local-street bikeway runs from Victoria Drive to Trafalgar Street, linking many key destinations like Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) and Commercial Drive, plus several busy north-south cycling routes.
Over 500,000 people cycle on 10th Avenue every year, making it one of the busiest east-west bikeways in the city.
Project goals
As part of this project, we're proposing to:
  • Improve comfort and accessibility for people walking and cycling, especially in busier sections around VGH
  • Address safety concerns for all road users, especially at key intersections
  • Accommodate the loading and access needs of adjacent businesses and institutions
We're currently gathering feedback on the 10th Avenue Corridor. Your feedback will help identify opportunities and challenges to help guide design improvements.
This project will be developed and implemented between 2015 and 2017.

The 10th avenue bike lane absolutely needs separate lanes in front of VGH and the Cancer agency. Separated bike lanes along 10th avenue Between trafalgar and Arbutus would be an important addition because children bike this route to get to and from the Kits community centre/Kits high school and there is a lot of vehicle traffic going fast along this road or trying to park. The area in front of St.John's private school in particular is treacherous for anyone around pickup/drop off times with a steady stream of distracted SUV drivers inching towards the drop zone along 10th.
