Tennyson student raises money for Children's Hospital

Thank you again for your support with Amelia's cause to donate to BC Children's Hospital! Between her bracelets and the coin purses, we were able to raise $215 at the Spring Fling. The community at Tennyson are so generous. That combined with other bracelet sales to family and friends since Xmas brings Amelia's donation to a total of $375.
What a great lesson in community, compassion and entrepreneurship.
Thanks to the many kind people who supported her!

Encore Musical Theatre presents Cinderella!

5/11/2015

Encore Musical Theatre Company is a company for Vancouver kids in grades 4 through 9 who LOVE musical theatre.

This year they are proudly presenting  Rodgers and Hammerstein’s  Cinderella!

There is one Tennyson student in the show - Jay Botham.   Maybe next year we will have more? Auditions are in September and Gr 4 students are especially needed. So, Gr 3's and 4's who are considering joining, should come check out the show and see what it is all about!

"Impossible things are happening every day!" sings the Godmother in Rodgers & Hammerstein's musical fairy tale   CINDERELLA, and impossible things will happen when young performers bring this timeless tale to life. First seen as a television spectacular in 1957, and remade for television in 1965 and 1997, Rodgers & Hammerstein's   CINDERELLA   spins its own version of the traditional story, woven through with such beloved songs as "In My Own Little Corner," "Ten Minutes Ago" and "Impossible."   With the script and score lovingly adapted for the stage, this classic seems just as fresh today. After all, even if we know the story by heart, we still hold our breath until we are sure that the slipper fits.

Tickets are $15.  The show is at the Norman Rothstein Theatre in Vancouver.

Thursday, June 11
7:00 pm

Friday, June 12
7:00 pm

Saturday, June 13
2:00 pm &  7:00 pm

To purchase tickets using our secure, online ticket selling system, The Arts People
·                go to Encore's website (www.encoremusicaltheatre.org)
·                click on the link that says "Click here to purchase tickets"
·                purchasers will be directed to The Arts People website (although it 'looks' like the Encore website)
·                enter the number of tickets to be purchased and which show
·                enter credit card data
·                enter the name of the Encore actor you know  (Jay Botham)
·   print off an e-ticket for each ticket purchased

Spring Fling Photos and thanks

5/10/2015

Friday's Spring Fling was a wonderful success. Thank you so much to Lori Satov for giving the students an opportunity to perform.
Many parent volunteers need to be thanked - too many to name them all. Some key ones are: Judy for leading the decorating  team (it was  fantastic!), Toni for student sign ups, Borja for sound, Susan for the raffle baskets (and thanks to all of the parents who contributed), Rachel for bake sale, and Jacqueline for food. All of these people had loads of help - thanks to everyone who joined in!  Thank you to Ed for mc'ing and to the kid wranglers Zoe and Joanne.
And special thanks to former Tennyson students Max (with friend Kevin), Benjy, Josh, Zoe, and Anika for volunteering their time.

The $200+ 50/50  prize was claimed at the event (I don't remember who it was ... I was so upset to be only one number away!). The raffle basket winners have been contacted (the winners are listed below the photos).

The students were the stars of the show. They are all so wonderfully brave and talented ... thank you to everyone who performed.  Enjoy the photos. As always, thank you to Tim Botham for his efforts to make sure we have these events properly photo documented. Trust me, I know (exactly!) how long it takes to weed all the photos and get them ready to present. Here is a link to all of the photos (more than below) in case parents would like high resolution images of their performers.

Thank you to the following businesses who supported our Spring Fling this year:
Randal Kurt Photography, Kitsilano Liquor Store, Vine and Hops, Pete's Meats, Cafe Artigiano   (Zoe and Shawn Read)
And, most of all, the HUGEST thanks goes out to RBC  and  their community grant program. They not only provided us with 6 of their employees to work at the event, they also provided Lord Tennyson Elementary with a much appreciated $1000 cheque! Thank you very much RBC!

A former Tennyson student, Emilie Teichtroeb, was at an orphanage in Nepal when the earthquake happened and the YouTube link below is her interview with CBC. She has set up an account through her family here in Canada to raise money to help rebuild the orphanage.
