Diversity Book Drive

2/15/2021

Picture
The Diversity and Inclusion Committee and Kidsbooks has put together a list of books featuring diverse characters. We want to make sure that the diversity in the world around us is reflected in the books available to our kids.  Research shows the importance of kids seeing both themselves and others represented in books and media. We are inviting our school community to purchase a book from the lists below to donate to the school library. As always, there is no obligation to participate and we appreciate the school community’s support in making these books available to all students.

HOW TO HELP:

STEP 1: Shop the Kidsbooks list online or purchase a book in store.  We have included French titles for all ages, as well as English titles at the intermediate level.  If you already have a book at home you’d like to contribute instead, we welcome that too!
FRENCH BOOKS FEATURING DIVERSITY - ALL GRADE LEVELS
ENGLISH BOOKS FEATURING DIVERSITY 1 - INTERMEDIATE GRADE LEVELS
ENGLISH BOOKS FEATURING DIVERSITY 2 - INTERMEDIATE GRADE LEVELS
OR
Purchase a gift card and have someone from our team choose a book on your behalf,  CLICK HERE to purchase a Kidsbooks Gift Card

STEP 2: Have your child bring the book or gift card to the school and place it in the box marked “diversity book drive” in the library.

Thank you for reading diverse books with your family, and for your help in expanding the library’s book collection!

The Vancouver Public Library has also curated a list of diverse books for kids. This is a wonderful, no cost resource which can be accessed at any time.
