The Zones of Regulation: A Framework to Foster Self-Regulation and Emotional Control. http://www.zonesofregulation.com/

This program has been chosen by Lord Tennyson staff for their 2015-16 school goal. All teachers received training in this program at the September Professional Development day and will be implementing it in the classrooms over the course of this school year. The purpose of this parent presentation is to gain an understanding of how this program works and how it will be used in the classrooms to help our kids.

Here is some more info from the school's recent newsletter:

You may have heard your children using terms such as “I’m in the red zone”. As part of our school goal,  which is to “work collaboratively as a school community to improve students’ well being by fostering  independence, resiliency and self-regulation”, we have begun implementing the program The Zones of  Regulation. According to the Zones’ creators, It has become generally recognized that our students who  have self-regulation challenges, appear to benefit both from some common approaches and from  increasing their understanding of their learning needs. The program helps students learn about:
• Sensory integration and regulation, helping them learn to manage sensory input from the  environment so they can process and respond is ways in which they are expected to function.
• Emotional self-understanding and emotional self-regulation.
• Executive functioning and cognitive control of behaviours
• Development of self-awareness

Students have also begun using tools in the classroom to help self-regulate themselves. These tools  include fidget toys, break centers or simple breathing techniques. We wish to thank the PAC for funding  a portion of these fidget toys. We appreciate your support around our school goal.

We are thrilled to announce that our Behaviour Consultant from the VSB, Bryce Recsky, will be speaking  at our next PAC meeting on Thursday, November 12 at 7:00 pm, on the topic of self-regulation, the  program Zones of Regulation and how we can bridge the skills taught at school to home. Please plan on  attending.
