Before Covid, one of Tennyson’s major traditions was the Grade 7 Quebec trip. Since 2019, the trip has not happened and it's unclear if there will be a trip in the next few years.
Part of the framework of the Grade 7 Quebec trip was a pot of money, theTennyson Quebec Futures Fund (TQFF). The TQFF is used to provide bursaries for students who needed it for a grade 7 Quebec trip, or to make up a shortfall of funding for a trip if the school didn't receive the expected government grants. The fund currently holds approx. $87,000, and the last deposit to the TQFF was in 2017. The TQFF Committee has been working hard all year, debating options for spending the TQFF money so it benefits the majority of the school community. After long deliberations the committee determined that, at this time, there are no special projects or activities that would merit spending all the money in the TQFF fund in one go. VSB rules state that money must be fundraised for a specific purpose. Since the TQFF money was specifically fundraised as an emergency fund to pay for Quebec trips when they don't receive the government grants, or for bursaries, the Tennyson community cannot spend the money on anything else unless we vote to give it a new purpose. So, the TQFF is asking parents to vote on whether you want to keep the money in the TQFF to cover bursaries or make up for a shortfall of funding for a Quebec trip in the future, or if you want to release the money to be used for other PAC initiatives. Between April 15 and April 28, 2024 parents will have an opportunity to vote on how they would like to move forward with the TQFF. The TQFF committee is also asking parents to complete a brief, four-question, survey following your vote, that will help us better understand parent preferences. As parent voice and engagement are vital to a thriving community, we hope you can take some time to answer these important questions. Vote and complete the survey here! - you can make one vote per child that you have at Tennyson Comments are closed.
