Orienteering BC, together with the Greater Vancouver Orienteering Club (GVOC), will again be offering our very successful Orienteering Adventure Kids (OAK) program this Spring, for kids ages 7-14. The eight weekly sessions run on Tuesday evenings, from April 2 to May 21. Program capacity is kept low, to enable individual attention, and the Spring 2019 group is expected to be ~10 participants. OAK sessions (6:30 – 8:00pm) run at different parks around the city, such as Memorial Park South, Jericho Park and Vanier Park. Note that OAK sessions will always go, rain or shine (because that’s what orienteers do!)
The OAK coaches and assistants follow a tested skills progression that systematically teaches kids how to read a map and navigate safely through unfamiliar terrain. The program focus is on learning new skills, improving physical and spatial literacy and, most importantly, having fun outdoors! More details, and the registration portal for the Spring OAK program, can be found at http://oak.orienteeringvancouver.ca/ If you would like more information about the program, please contact Adam Woods, Head Coach ([email protected]) or Brian Ellis, Program Manager ([email protected]).
