A day that started with threats of rain, ended in sun and fun, at Camosun Park, with the first of three Cross-country Running Mini-Meets. The idea was to suss out the competition and assess the effectiveness of those early morning rain-or-shine Tenny-runs. Races were run in stages, according to grades, with each being led by an older "rabbit", who led the contestants around the track, up the hill, through the woods, and out to the final lap to the finish line. |
- the general pandemonium of several hundred children, with parents, uncles, aunts, and assorted siblings was surprisingly well-contained and well-behaved, though we suspect that there will be more than one happy dog being walked the next morning at the fields, sniffing out a few dropped smarties.
- the starts were so "energetic" that we strongly suspect the lead "rabbits" of running for their lives than setting a pace or showing the route.
And here are some select photos from the event for your enjoyment.
