The Spring Fling was a big hit
Tennyson playground was the place to be seen on Thursday, May 11, when we partied until dusk at the Spring Fling. Thank you to the school administration for allowing us to host the party and for being so flexible and supportive of our plan changes.
At the last minute, we decided to take advantage of the perfect weather, and moved the disco to the courtyard so the kids, parents, and teachers could dance in the open air. DJ BFAD played one crowd-pleaser after another, and had the audience jumping and singing the entire night.
There was rock painting and decoration making in the pod for the creative crew and those who wanted to take a break from the dancing, and there were some sports day games in the playground for the more competitive kids. "It was lovely to be outside in the sun, listening to the music and chatting with friends while the kids danced and played," said one happy parent.
Another big hit at the Spring Fling were the face-painters who didn't stop decorating children's faces all night. And I should let you know that the face painters said they had a super time and that "all the children were so nice," so kudos parents for raising such lovely kids.
It was fantastic to see Mme Kerri and members of the SOGI club hosting a table at the Spring Fling where they sold crafts by donation to raise funds for Rainbow Refugees, a Vancouver based not-for-profit that promotes safe, equitable migration and communities of belonging for people fleeing persecution based on their sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or HIV status. Thank you for giving your time to attend our event and raise money for such a great cause.
Thanks to the delicious baked goods that were generously donated by families and the two food trucks, Meet2Eat and Tin Lizzy Concessions (who sold the grilled cheese sandwiches and poutine), no-one went hungry.
Of course none of this could have happened without the wonderful volunteers who helped out on the night. A big shout out to the parents who worked the concession and bake sale, to those who help kids with the arts and crafts and those who volunteered to work security and the door and were re-deployed to run games and other activities. Thank you; you're wonderful!
And, last but not least, thank you to Margaux, Sarah, Jenny, Janice, Carmen, Trish, Darren and Orla who planned and organized the night and made it so special for the kids.
