Tennyson Tiger Track and Field season at Lord Tennyson is starting soon!
We need lots of parent volunteers to make sure this happens. Please contact Jacqueline Crummey if you can help: [email protected] Track and Field is for all Lord Tennyson Elementary students, from K-7. We have three divisions: Junior-X Grades K-2 - parents or caregivers need to be in attendance at practices Junior Grades 3-5 Senior Grades 6-7 Each season we start practices a couple of weeks after spring break, on the field and playground, and in the gym. Practices are Monday, Wednesday, Friday when school is in session, starting at 8am. We always have school staff support, this year's sponsor teachers tba. The events are: high-jump, long-jump, shot-put, relay, and individual running races such as 100m for Juniors & Seniors, 600m for Juniors, and 800m for Seniors. Races to be confirmed by district coordinators. Friday practices include a snack for afterwards, which parents collaborate in providing. Standard equipment is a pair of socks & running shoes (it can be super challenging to do high jump on rubber boots or sandals, not to mention unsafe). Bright orange Tennyson Athletic synthetic t-shirts are used as our school uniform. Please buy them for your student before the practices begin, so your athlete can wear them to the practices. We also have shirts available for volunteers and adult supporters, in a variety of sizes. Shirts are available for a cost of $20, and are virtually indestructible. If the cost is not possible for your family, please send a confidential email to our principal, Doug Roch at [email protected], for a bursary. No student will be left out due to inability to afford a shirt. The regular season involves weekly mini-meets at various schools around the west-side from 3:30-5pm, culminating with a season ending divisional meet at Point Grey Secondary School. Dates tba. The Juniors are usually at 9am, back at school for lunch. The seniors start at 1pm, ending before 3pm. For the youngest group, all Track & Field Junior and Senior members run a mini-meet at the school following the end of regular season practices. It is a fun morning practice, with races, ribbons, snacks and excitement! All information about track & field will be available as soon as it is available. Looking forward to another great season with the Tigers! Comments are closed.
