Hi Tennyson Tigers!
What a great launch to the track and field season - the kids have been out enjoying themselves and the weather has been great! It’s been a great week for the Track and Field team, and we’re up to 48 eager tigers running, jumping and throwing! Practices started last Monday, March 30 and run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 to 8:50. We are delighted to have coach Steve from the Thunderbirds Track and Field Club working with our team periodically this season. Parent Volunteers needed: Friday Snack Day Our Tennyson Tigers work hard throughout the week and it would be nice to celebrate after Friday practises with a snack. Any parents interested in bringing a snack on an upcoming Friday morning practise? (no nuts please!) Mini meet and district meet drivers : We will be asking parents to coordinate transportation for their children to and from meets amongst themselves. If you are driving any children other than your own to or from meets, please complete a VSB Driver Approval form and have it signed by Mme Lavoie. Please also check with the meet coordinator of that day before leaving the school with students. Mini-Mini Meet Organizers : The VSB Track and Field events are aimed at students in Grades 3 to 7. Any parents keen on helping organize a Mini-Mini Meet at the school to include the K to 2‘s should contact Carina ([email protected]) New Registrations: New registrations will be accepted until Monday, April 13. There is no cost, but please submit a registration form to ensure your child may participate; forms are available outside the school office or on the Tennyson website and can be dropped in the mail slot. Students in K to grade 2 will require a parent to stay with them for the duration of the practises. Mini-meets and District Meets: Mini-meets are fun events held at nearby parks and schools. Attendance at mini-meets is not required, but are alot of fun! Students have the opportunity to participate in mini-meets for events they have been practising. Our team has been practising long jump, running, high jump and shot put, and will represent Tennyson fiercely! Please complete a Track and Field Mini-Meet and District Meet Form if your child plans to participate in any of the meets (this is attached and in addition to the registration form). Mini-Meets are at Camosun Park (16th and Camosun) 3:30 to 5 pm Juniors (grades 3 to 5): Wednesday, May 13 and Thursday, May 21 Seniors (grades 6 and 7): Monday, May 11 and Tuesday, May 19 Final Meet The Final meet is an exciting event that takes place on May 26th at Point Grey Secondary School. Put this one in your calendars as it is too much fun to be missed! Your child should attend at least one mini-meet during the season in order to attend this Final Meet. Juniors (grades 3-5) participate from 8:30 am until 12:30 pm Seniors (grades 6-7) participate from 1 pm until 3/3:30 pm. We ask that students wear their Tennyson orange t-shirts from cross country to the mini meets and district meet.
