June 3-7 is Walk, Bike, Roll to school week and Tennyson students are really into it!

The daily prize draw, the chance to win a Pedalheads bike camp gift certificate, and the chance to win freezies for their class, are big incentives to walk, bike or roll to school this week. We hope you will help us continue to encourage the kids to walk, bike, or roll to school because of the numerous benefits.

10 reasons why active travel to school is so great!

  1. Mental Health - Regular exercise is known to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, and it can improve mood and overall mental well-being.
  2. Social Interaction - Walking, biking, or rolling to school allows children to interact with their peers and develop social skills.
  3. Physical Health - Regular physical activity helps strengthens muscles and bones and improves cardiovascular health.
  4. Safety Skills - Kids learn essential safety and navigation skills, such as crossing streets and understanding traffic signals.
  5. Community Engagement - Having children walk, bike or roll to school together Increases awareness and fosters a sense of community among students, parents, and neighbors.
  6. Academic Performance - Physical activity can enhance concentration  and memory leading to better academic performance.
  7. Independence and Responsibility - Traveling to school independently fosters a sense of responsibility, self-reliance, and confidence in children.
  8. Environmental Impact - Reducing car trips decreases air pollution and traffic congestion, contributing to a healthier environment.
  9. Cost Savings - By not driving you are saving gas money
  10. Habit Formation - Learning active travel habits at school will help encourage lifelong healthy habits and an appreciation for active lifestyles.
